Disaster Relief

WHK have not been immune to the recent weather events that have caused so much damage and heartache.

While every Australian seems to be pitching in, we are no different. WHK have both staff and clients across the group who are facing difficult times.

So in response we have come up with three ways to assist in these circumstances.

Firstly the WHK Group has been doing some fundraising internally to assist various charities. To date we have raised in excess of $35,000 which will go to flood relief across QLD, NSW and VIC.

Secondly we also have a number of fact sheets available for Primary Producers and Small Businesses who have been affected by these events. There are many opportunities for funding available and our staff are able to advise and assist anyone to complete applications across the various schemes.

Finally, if as a client you have been affected and are struggling to meet due dates for returns or submissions please allow us to assist in seeking extensions where possible. We are more than happy to help. In some circumstances automatic deferrals are already in place and our staff have information pertaining to those.

We wish everyone affected a quick recovery and please don't hesitate to contact your local office for any assistance we can provide.

A Computer Scam to be Wary of

Recently we have had both staff and clients receive telephone calls claiming to be from Microsoft or similar companies who say they have identified a virus on your home or work computer, and are seeking remote access to fix it. This is a computer scam that gives outsiders access to your valuable information and potential fraud. We highly recommend you don't comply with their wishes.

The calls usually unfold in the following way.

- A cold caller, claiming to be a representative of Microsoft, one of its brands or a third party contracted by Microsoft, tells the victim they are checking into a computer problem, infection or virus that has been detected by Microsoft.

- They tell the victim they can help and direct them to a website that then allows the scammers to take remote control of the computer.

- The cold caller will then spend some time on the computer trying to demonstrate where the 'problems' are and in the process convinces the victim to pay a fee for a service that will fix the computer.

Microsoft have distributed information that they will never call individuals in this manner, and that the calls come across as very professional and convincing.

We strongly recommend you terminate the call as soon as possible and if necessary report it to the police.
