With the New Year may come many opportunities & new possibilities for personal & professional growth & development as well as improving enjoyment of family life & relationships. One of the most worthwhile aspects of our work as Homeopaths is facilitating individual physical & emotional health improvements which then impact to enhance the lives of our family & work environments.

How does this happen you may ask? Homeopathy aims to addresses the cause of "dis-ease." When an individual receives a well selected remedy significant shifts occur mentally, emotionally & physically. As a result we may observe, not only physical improvements but also past patterns of behaviour changing and as a consequence, others around you alter their response to you, life begins to flow more easily, conflicts ease & a greater sense of well-being ensues.

This January has marked 2 important 7's - Our family's 7th year in Brisbane and also the 7th year of the Brisbane Tennis open & a line-up of International Tennis players including, Federer, Raonic, Asarenka and more. As I draft this edition the Australian Open in underway in Melbourne. Many sportsmen & women including Tennis players use Homeopathy including the former Champion Annabel Croft - Annabel has used Homeopathy not just for acute anxiety & nerves but also for uterine cysts. Read more of her encounter with homeopathy below.

If you've set New Year fitness resolutions and find you've sore, aching & tired muscles, don't forget that there are many Homeopathic remedies which can help to ease & assist the transition back to fitness! See Article 2 below for more general info.

Norman Doidge is back hosting a series of 2 day seminars across Australia, as well as appearing at writers festivals. Increasing recognition of the Neuroplasticity of the brain has helped facilitate healing chronic illnesses other often deemed "incurable". Homeopathy of course recognises the role our emotional being & mental approach has in our overall wellbeing as well as in health & disease. This will be a workshop for patients & practitioners alike. If you can't make those dates catch Doidge at one of the many writers festivals which will be taking place across Australia over the next few months.

New Research Article: Psorinum 6 x triggers apoptosis signals in human lung cancer cells
Great efforts have been made to successfully combat various types of cancer including improved surgical tools, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, such interventions, due to financial limitations, are not available to huge populations, particularly in the developing world. Further, the number of cancer cases has increased so much so that many cancer patients are unable to obtain mainstream cancer treatments because of inadequate medical infrastructure, in addition to financial constraints.

Additionally, the prognosis of some forms of cancer, like cancers of liver, gall bladder, pancreas, and stomach, is still poor. Elderly cancer patients may not tolerate conventional cancer treatments because of old age-related problems, including lack of strength to cope with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Therefore, in recent years, there has been a serious search for efficient complementary and alternative medicines (CAMs) which could render additional benefits, particularly when used in combination with the mainstream Western medicines. Psorinum therapy is one CAM practice, whose promising results have been advertised by a group of Indian scientists and clinicians.

Annabel Croft: Why I have come to rely on homeopathic medicine
As Wimbledon fortnight begins, player-turned-TV presenter
Annabel Croft describes how her life has been transformed by homeopathy - Daily Telegraph June 2009

Aconite, Gelsemium, Ignatia... just a few things you might want to have handy when Andy Murray steps out at Wimbledon this week. For these homeopathic remedies can be helpful if, in respective order, you're feeling anxious and fearful, suffering pre-match nerves in the stands at Centre Court or, worse still, concerned that you might be grief-stricken when the umpire calls game, set and match.

You won't be alone in relying on homeopathic help; in the commentary box, former England women's number one Annabel Croft, now a TV presenter and mother of three, will be reaching for a cocktail of remedies to see her through the tournament. Annabel, who is reporting from Wimbledon for BBC Radio 5 Live and GMTV, has been taking homeopathic medicine in advance of the competition to prepare for whatever comes her way this week.

But her first encounter with homeopathy - a form of complementary treatment based on the premise that tiny quantities of certain substances can stimulate the body's natural forces of recovery - came in rather more dramatic circumstances.

Food of the Month: All we need is Callaloo!
This is what happens when you eat Okra (main ingredient of Trinidadian Callaloo soup!)
"Humans live on one-quarter of what they eat; on the other three-quarters lives their doctor." - Egyptian pyramid inscription, 3800 B.C.

Abelmoschus esculentus or Hibiscus esculentus, also known as Okra, is a widely used vegetable all over the world. Not many people like it because of its 'slimy' texture, but this vegetable is loaded with a number of health benefits that will probably have you considering adding it into your diet if you are passionate about your health.
Okra originated in Egypt, and people have been growing it since the 12th century. It can be consumed in a variety of different ways, such as stewed, fried, or even fermented. It's usually served with other vegetables and rice or put into soups which is where I first tasted it 26 years ago in Trinidad & experienced the delights of Caribbean food & west Indian music. Recipe for Traditional callaloo soup can be found here.

More on the benefits of Okra here.
