To our Roast and Post guests, for continuing to support this rural family business we would like to reward you with the gift of poetry when you order on-line in February.
Last year the Coffee Works, who has always been a patron of regional arts, staged an Art Exhibition and a Poetry Competition as part of a Festival of the Arts to celebrate the opening of its very own chocolaterie, "The Chocolate Works".
Poets of all ages were invited to submit poems along the theme of Coffee and Chocolate. The Coffee Works has published a selection of the competition entries in an anthology of poetic works. Enjoy!
To say thank you for choosing our boutique beans we would like to offer you a free 250gram bag of Caramel Coffee when you order 2kg or more of coffee on-line in March.
Our Caramel Coffee is a blend of South American, Papua New Guinea and Indian premium coffees designed specifically for espresso but also cups in most other coffee makers including the plunger. It is a rich, full bodied espresso coffee with smooth resonant character. This blend is very popular in the "commercial coffee shop" market which is what it was designed for.
Caramel is not a flavoured coffee! The term Caramel is used only to describe the particular roast used in the blend base and refers to the caramelisation of the coffee sugars and starches.
Fine Coffee and Chocolates! Two of those great indulgences in life!
Since we started creating fine chocolate in our very own chocolaterie, "The Chocolate Works", we have received many enquiries from our Roast & Post guests about purchasing some of our special handcrafted chocolates. After sampling our chocolate, while visiting the Coffee Works here in Mareeba on the Cairns Highlands, scores of people have been contacting us wanting more, upon their return home.
The bad news is ....that our chocolate has only been available over
the counter at the Coffee Works, however, the good news is.... that we
are currently working on the logistics of offering our delectable
chocolates from our chocolaterie to our Roast and Post customers through
our personalised mail order service.
Our chocolates, based on fine Belgium coverture in White, Milk and Dark , are available in a superb selection of taste sensations. Our chocolatiers have created the most tantalizing and mouthwatering assortment of chocolates including our newest flavours of Chocolate Coated Mango and Chocolate Coated Pineapple and old favourites like Lemon Myrtle, Macadamia Bark, Ginger Medallions and the ever popular Espresso Coffee Chocolate that has fine 'Turkish' ground coffee blended with the chocolate to create a smooth coffee/chocolate sensory experience. For the more adventurous we suggest the Dark Chili Chocolate and Lime with Cracked Pepper.
We hope to be offering the chocolates to everybody prior to Easter 2007. We will keep you up to date through our eNewsletter!
Cup your hands around a steaming mug of fine coffee and you have history in your grasp. One sip of the heady brew and you've joined a long line of humanity that has delighted in its charm.
No other food or beverage has captured man's imagination as passionately as coffee. There is a history and a depth to coffee which has evolved and grown richer weaving a delicious thread throughout civilization.
In a few months The Coffee Works will pay tribute to man's ingenuity and fascination with coffee when "The Coffee Works Collection" is unveiled. This spectacular collection will tell the story of man and machine and the part coffee has played in creating culture all over the world.
The next 3 months here at the Coffee Works will be very exciting and very busy with work commenced on the new 350sq metres of building fit-out for The Coffee Works Collection.
The Collection of more than 2,000 stunning antiques which span 3 centuries and 6 continents, arrived here at the Coffee Works last week, and now starts the enormous job of accessioning each piece.
As collectors of coffee antiques in their own right, acquiring 'The Collection' has always been a long-time dream of The Coffee Works owners, Annie and Rob Webber. The dream became a reality when the opportunity arose to purchase The Collection from Ian Bersten, Australia's foremost writer and authority on coffee.
Hailed as the most significant collection of its kind in the world, the Coffee Works recognised its importance and value to the Australian coffee industry here in Mareeba, Australia's coffee capital. We'll keep you updated about the Collection which is scheduled to be launched sometime around May this year.
Keep in mind if you're heading north this year, or have friends or rellies who are, pencil in The Coffee Works at the top of the 'To Do' list.....it's the Ultimate Coffee Experience!
One of our many delicious coffees is Decaff -Swiss Water treated. We are often asked what 'Swiss Water treated' means. It is in fact the name of the decaffeination process in which the coffee beans are circulated in water already fully saturated in coffee flavour. The flavour charged water removes the caffeine but prevents the flavour components of the coffee to dissolve and escape during decaffeination. The original coffee flavour is always maintained. The extracted caffeine is removed using activated carbon filters, leaving the flavour-charged water ready to decaffeinate the next batch of beans.
