...New Year - New Home - New You!

If your New Year's resolution is to be clutter-free and organised, we can help make your wish come true! Between those unwanted gifts you received at Christmas to all the "bargains" you picked up at the Boxing Day sales, it is time to take stock of the excess items around the house.

I spoke on 4BC radio on New Years Day about setting your organising goals for the New Year and the No.1 rule I revealed to keep homes clutter-free is "one in - one out" meaning when you bring a new item into the home, an old one has to go.

Yes ladies, this includes shoes and handbags! Sell, donate, refund, exchange, re-gift, and throw out - whatever means necessary. Read on for other tips to get the New Year started.

New Year Resolutions... I will organise my home!

There is no time like January to declutter, but how do you get started?
Try these 3 quick tips:

Tackle the largest or most urgent area first - this will give a sense of accomplishment, motivating you to move through the rest of the house.

Set a declutter schedule: a little every day or taking one full day once a month - whatever works for you.

Have six tubs labelled for sorting: Keep, Move, Repair, Sell, Donate, Rubbish/Recyle.

Fabulous Feng Shui

It's time to prepare for 2011 - The year of the Rabbit!

Preparations for the Chinese New Year in old China started well in advance of the New Year's Day (Feb 3, 2011) through annual housecleaning or the "sweeping of the grounds". Every corner of the house must be decluttered and cleaned in preparation for the New Year.

According to Chinese tradition, the Rabbit brings a year in which you can catch your breath and calm your nerves. To gain the greatest benefits, focus on home and family and aim to create a safe, peaceful lifestyle.

Sight: open the curtains to let in natural light or turn on lamps to lighten up any dark areas.

Taste: offer a plate of cookies or other snacks as a pick-me-up for tired buyers.

Hearing: have some easy listening music playing in the background softly.
