The Cairns Amateurs have seen 50 successful years
but it is now time to freshen up our approach. This
newsletter is our new way of communicating with our
Members, Sponsors and other interested parties on a more
timely basis.
The Amateurs are a very important part of Far North
Queensland life and we want to continue this
tradition. However, we appreciate the last couple of
years, in particular, have been beset by problems.
The Committee are actively reviewing all of the
Amateurs functions with a view to reinvigorate our

couple of years and I would like to introduce you to
them:

been Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Tropical
North Queensland and has worked across the globe.

after previously working for private enterprise and

The Club values
our long-term associations with our Sponsors and welcomes new
Sponsors to the Amateur’s family. The Club aims to further
develop relationships within the business community on
a national level and encourages inquiries from interested
parties. Sponsors are afforded VIP treatment in appreciation of
their contributions and support.
Our Club is
determined to keep abreast with the advances in tourism and
population growth and to provide the necessary infrastructure.
Each year since, the Cairns Amateurs carnival has grown,
adapting to some varying economic climates and responding to
world and local events, and firmly establishing itself on the
local and national racing and social calendars.
Annually, the
Cairns Amateurs provides huge contributions to Cairns. Economic
surveys conducted in 1998 and 2004 indicated that Amateurs
generates in excess of $15 million in direct spending over the 4
day Carnival period. Our Club attracts approximately 20,000
race-goers over the two days, over 4,000 of whom are interstate
and overseas visitors.
Considered one of
the richest provincial horse races in Australia and the headline
act on the Region’s social calendar, the activities during
Cairns Amateurs are reported in a wide range of media from local
television and newspapers to national glossy magazines. The
carnival is not just about racing; it’s about having a good time
and promoting Cairns.
