Hi [fistname]
This edition
of COUCH Capers is jam packed with a series of events
supporting the fundraising efforts of:
COUCH Update...
COUCH has received a letter from Stephen
Robertson, Minister for Health in response to our letter
querying how strictly Queensland Health will adhere to
their timetable.
Please click here to view timetable. The
Minister assures us they will be on time which is at the
end of 2012. However, the finalisation of the Draft
Master Plan is still not complete and is now due on the
10th October 2008.
We are also concerned that the current
chemotherapy area located on the 3rd Floor of Block C at
Cairns Base Hospital is very over crowded and there was
no room for the extra 5 chemotherapy chairs which have
been funded by the Federal Government. The new
chemotherapy area will move to Block A. Although this
area has now been vacated there has been a lack of
action in the refurbishment and the move will not happen
until July or later next year. We are currently
following this up with the Health Minister and
Queensland Health to see if this can be speeded up.
On a brighter note, the community does a
great job in fund raising and keeping the profile out
there. Recent events include:
• Pirates Day out at The Dufyken
• Tissue – A Play by Louise Page to be held on Satuday
11th October
• Art Exhibition & Charity Auction, Friday 31st October
at Shangri-La
• Pretty In Pink – Girls’ Day at the Races – Saturday
25th October
There are many other events and activities and these are
much appreciated by the Committee and all Cairns
District people affected by cancer (please see below).
Bob McGill has been attending the
Northern Area Health Service Integrated Cancer Care
Services Plan Steering Committee meetings.
To date we have raised over $430,000.
Thanks for your ongoing support and we
look forward to seeing you at an event in the future.
| Yours sincerely

"Why me?" A question frequently asked by Sally,
diagnosed as having breast cancer and facing a
mastectomy. The subject of breast cancer is
sensitively handled. We see how it affects not
only Sally, but also many of the people who are
closest to her. There are moments of humour,
sadness, love, fear, frustration, friendship and
romance as we learn that for Sally, and thousands
like her, there can be a light at the end of the
tunnel.
