What’s New at The Coffee Works in 2006?

A Chocolate Affair

We’d like to spill the beans on our newest delicious addition to The Coffee Works. In April we opened our very own boutique Chocolaterie. Yes …we make our own exquisite selection of chocolates on site at the Coffee Works. Australian Lemon Myrtle, Marbled Macadamia Bark, Chocolate coated Ginger Medallions and of course Australian Espresso Chocolate, are just a few among the eclectic range of traditional and modern chocolate flavours available.

Visitors to the Coffee Works not only have the opportunity to be seduced by the tastes of our luscious line-up of chocolates, but they can witness chocolate being created right before their eyes through a special viewing window.

Unfortunately for our Roast & Post guests, our chocolate, for the moment, is only available over the counter at the Coffee Works. However, we are looking into the possibility of adding chocolate to our list of mail-order products in the future. We’ll keep you posted.

The The Ultimate Tasting Experience

This year visitors to The Coffee Works have been introduced to a totally delicious gourmet experience called “The Ultimate Tasting Experience”. The Ultimate Tasting Experience is a personally hosted ‘tree to cup’ tour that gives visitors the unique opportunity to sample:

  • 21 Australian and world coffees
  • 4 rare Australian teas
  • 2 exclusive liqueurs and
  • 12 exquisite chocolates

Visitors can compare the region’s best beans to premium coffees from every corner of the world, sip rare plantation teas, indulge in delectable liqueurs, go wild over our exquisite selection of chocolates and discover the Australian coffee story. It’s a one of a kind gourmet experience not to be missed when in our part of the world.

Coming Soon in 2007 ... The The Courtyard Cafe

Soon the Coffee Works will open its new ‘Courtyard Café.’ Our existing café will soon be used exclusively by people who are enjoying the Ultimate Tasting Experience.

Visitors to the Courtyard Café will find it the perfect place to share a light lunch with friends, meet for great coffee and yummy cakes or enjoy gourmet sorbet and superb home made gelato while relaxing in pleasant, leafy surrounds. The new café has a great feel to it, light and spacious with the same charm and contemporary rustic style as other areas of The Coffee Works.

“The Coffee Works Collection”

The next milestone for the Coffee works is by far the most exciting the launch of ‘The Collection’.

In 2007 The Coffee Works will proudly unveil The Coffee Works Collection…the most significant collection of coffee and tea antiques anywhere in the world.

The mystery and mastery of creating the perfect cup has kept us captivated for over three centuries. Soon you will be able to journey through more than 250 years of coffee and tea history at The Coffee Works.

The Collection traces the development of ideas and equipment associated with coffee and tea from their earliest introduction in Europe. More than 2,000 stunning antiques trace the evolution of coffee and tea making through design, invention and technological creation.

Now, for the first time under one roof, we will be privileged to have The Collection on permanent display at the Coffee Works, here in Mareeba, on the Cairns Highlands for all our visitors to enjoy ... the only experience of its kind in the world!

‘New Look’ WEBSITE

In the New Year, we are hoping our on-line Roast & Post visitors will be pleasantly surprised with the ‘new look’ Coffee Works website. We are in the process of re-designing and enhancing our website and ordering systems to make it easier, faster and more convenient for you to order. Our on-line product range will expand and the site will be regularly updated with offers and matters of interest to coffee lovers. It will be worth waiting for! In the meantime visit our present site at www.coffeeworks.com.au.

Iced Coffee for Summer

An iced coffee is a really delicious summer drink. The courtship of coffee and iced milk was first concocted decades ago when the coffee men of yesteryear began thinking outside of the hot cup. According to popular belief, iced coffee developed from a bubbly French concoction called Mazagran. It was a combination of cold coffee and seltzer water with a tangy twist of lemon. It was a fabulous way to use cold coffee that was too good to toss.

Four Steps to Traditional Iced Coffee

  1. Brew a rich strong coffee at double strength, once cool transfer to a carafe or pitcher and refrigerate.

  2. Add sugar to taste while the coffee is still hot. Don’t wait until the coffee has cooled down because it will take longer for the sugar to dissolve.

  3. Pour the now chilled coffee into a tall glass. Add milk or cream to make the perfect iced coffee drink!

  4. To make it extra special a shot of our very luscious Coffee Works coffee liqueur will really top it off.

Tip: A novel suggestion is to make coffee ice cubes from room temperature coffee and store in the freezer to make iced coffee anytime.
