Happy Chinese New Year

...although it is hard to think of it like that when Mother Nature keeps throwing us curve balls like floods, cyclones and bushfires!

It is now officially the Year of the Rabbit and this means the next 12 months will be placid, very much welcomed and needed after the ferocious year of the Tiger! We need to find a quiet spot to lick our wounds and get some rest after all the battles of the previous year.

Speaking of which, I am heading over to Christchurch New Zealand this month for the Professional Organisers conference (yes there is such a thing) as it had to be postponed due to the earthquake last September. I will be also heading down to Milford Sound for a bit of serenity and will be back on deck raring to go soon.

Here's to harmony in your home!

Flood Relief - Food, Fridges and All!

While my husband was busily shovelling mud at the nearby RSPCA shelter, myself and other members of the Association of Professional Organisers joined forces to deliver baked goods, drinks and hand sanitiser to flood affected homes in Brisbane as part of a project called Baked Relief.

(Pictured (L-R): Louise D'Allura, myself and Adele Blair get ready for our Baked Relief delivery run to homes in Fairfield.)

Salvaging a Fridge - Channel 9 Interview

I was also privileged to be asked by the Today Show on Channel 9 to demonstrate how to salvage flood affected fridges. Although it was the worst smelling thing the crew or myself had ever encountered in our lives (as you can tell by our faces in the picture), it gave us a very good insight into what the poor flood victims have to contend with, cleaning out their own homes each day.

What to do if You Are Organised and Your Partner Isn't

A Valentines Day story

When I asked my friends and family for their decluttering dilemmas, I had responses varying from paperwork in the home office to tackling Tupperware in the kitchen. One recurring challenge that really struck me however, was the problem of what to do if you are organised and your partner isn't.
Being part of a mismatched couple is quite common. By "mismatched," I mean couples where one of the people in the relationship is clean and organised and the other person in the relationship is messy and disorganised. This doesn't necessarily cause a problem unless at least one of the two people has animosity about the difference.

If this scenario rings true for you, read on here.

Fabulous Feng Shui

Do you leave your shoes at the front door? It is considered bad Feng Shui as the space at the front door needs to be free and clear. The chi (energy) rides with the wind and will collect all the smell of those shoes into your house causing sickness. Ewwww!

Selling Homes Successfully

Tips to have your house open and ready for inspection!

Street appeal - if your house doesn't have it, potential buyers won't even want to come in the door. Here are a few tips to have your house open and ready for inspection:

1.

Clean up your landscaping with pruning and planting

2.

Mow, rake, edge, weed and water to make the yards look greener

3.

Wash the walls and eves

4.

Repair and paint if needed

5.

Get the pressure cleaner out to give the paths and the driveway a blast and repair any broken or chipped cement

6.

Create some visual interest: ensure the mailbox looks good, add some easy to see house numbers, nice front lights and even a water feature (good for Feng Shui too).
